Cornell to Enter 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge

Wednesday, May 10, 2006—Cornell will be competing in DARPA's 2007 Grand Challenge, the follow-up to 2005's ground-breaking race through the desert. The third Grand Challenge is, much like last year's race, designed to pit autonomous vehicles against each-other and the clock, but it replaces last year's desert conditions with a much more challenging urban environment. The race, according to DARPA officials, is designed to simulate autonomous supply missions in and between cities. Vehicles will be required to navigate a 60-mile urban course, in under six hours, all without any human help. Stay tuned for more updates on Cornell's progress.
